MY THOUGHTS:
Reality Natalie by Katie Sparks is a contemporary tween drama that will appeal to tween girls between the ages 8-12 as it tackles many contemporary issues that they face today. Some issues, as a tween once, I could relate but some of the others are ones that have arisen because of social media which of course is a reality that our girls must tackle. The star of the book, Natalie, who is your everyday eleven year old must learn how to navigate the perilous waters of best friends, parents expectations, school, annoying boys, and the world of social media.
More than anything else in the world Natalie Greyson wants to become the new guest co-host on her favourite tween talk show, Kidz Konnection. She idolizes the two current hosts. In order to do so she must overcome her own fears of being in front of people and hold off what is called the 'fake shakes' in the book. However, she is not the only one in her way. Her parents don't want her to do it, and one of her best friends also is auditioning. Natalie will learn life lessons about what it means to go after what you want and what you are willing to do to achieve that dream without compromising your morals and staying true to oneself.
I give Reality Natalie 5 stars out of 5. I found reading it to be quick paced, and filled with a variety of themes that could be tackled and appropriate to tween girls today.
Here are some journaling topics to get your tween girl or class thinking before they read the book:

and made the right one/wrong one.
