DIY Repurposed Wicker Basket

DIY Repurposed Wicker Basket

'Mom, mom I won a draw in my class.  Look mom look what I won.'  Pic below.
Garbage Can won in draw

Me:  'You won your teacher's garbage can?' Incredulous look on my face.   'What am I supposed to do with it? (Thinking donate)

Him:  'I don't know but isn't cool I won it.'

I couldn't say no to it and now it has been floating around my house with no where to go for a few weeks.  Each week I ask him if I can donate it in my next round to GoodWill but his answer is always the same.

'No, I won it!  I never win anything!'

Ok, ok,  then it has to find a home in our house.

This is not a sponsored post.  This is just what I did so I could find a place for this wicker basket.  I didn't even have a place for it as a garbage can.  I decided it would be repurposed into a container for the abundant of things in my daughter's bedroom.  She is the youngest and doesn't have a lot of storage yet in her room.  I thought if I could make it pink or purple it could be cute in her room.

We have had a lot of hot days here so I placed an old shower curtain on my grass as you want to do this in a very well ventilated area.  I followed the directions on the can and the rest was easy.

I started with spraying the inside of the basket.  I did 3 coats waiting about 15-30 minutes between each coat.  The can does say wait only about 1 minute between thin coats but I have never used this product before so I waited anywhere between the 15-30 minutes.

After the inside was done I did the outside.  Same process and time.  And last I flipped it over and did the bottom.  Same process and time.

The only other thing I did was leave the basket outside to dry and air out for 2 days as it was pretty stinky.  I didn't want to put it in my daughter's room with its strong smell.

Here it is placed in my daughter's room.  I liked the pink we used as it goes nice up against the brown walls.

Here it is in my daughter's room

First, I gathered some of here many princess dolls and placed them inside.  They were a good fit.

Then I found some of her tiaras and headbands and hung them off the side.

I bet the basket is glad it didn't become a garbage can again.  And my son is happy his prize stayed in the house.  And mama is happy it has a new purpose and fits in with our house.

Cheers,

Bonnie
