My thoughts:

If you are not familiar with Melissa Perry Moraja's books she writes a series known as The Wunderkind Family and this picture book is the perfect introduction to the youngest member of the family, Isabella and the family pet, Baxter.  Isabella's mom is busy working and asks Isabella to babysit the family dog Baxter while she finishes up then she will help Isabella take Baxter for a walk.  Isabella is excited as usually she is the one who needs babysitting.  What follows is Isabella tackling the job of keeping a dog out of trouble.  Isabella learns that taking care of dog perhaps isn't so easy but she does the best job she can.  I liked the theme of responsibility of taking care of a pet and how through the illustrations, Moraja, shows the fun that can be had but also the clean up that is usually necessary.  

I read this book with my four year old daughter who has been asking a lot lately for her own dog.  She loves dogs.  Throughout reading the book she kept saying 'I wish I could do that' which speaks to Moraja knowing what kids like.  My daughter's favourite parts were when Isabella and Baxter dance together and the picture below where they create art.  She also commented on liking the character of Isabella the most.

I have to say I loved the illustration of Baxter the most.  Especially, the one below where he shows unbridled enjoyment with his tongue hanging out.  So adorable!  I also loved the colour of the illustrations for an ebook format as it is not cluttered and has great contrast making it a pleasure to read on the kindle iPad application.
